About the Artist

Hi parents, babies and friends, I’m Natalie,  a mother, performer, educator, and researcher passionate about the exploration of sounds, sonic objects and environments. I have been playing the guzheng since young.

Professionally, I have been  experimenting with extended techniques, creating different textures, ambience and emotions evoked through my instrument. My practice as an experimental improviser has led me towards researching into babies’ sonic play through my doctoral studies and motherhood.

I believe that play is a baby’s essential being, and am interested in furthering research about the creation of spaces to allow for unadulterated play with sound and objects in safe and immersive environments. I have a 27-month-old boy, Baby Dodo, who has been involved in all my young audience’s works since birth, and am expecting a lil’ one in August 2020.

I founded LittleCr3atures in 2017, a young audience initiative of the parent company, SAtheCollective whom I co-founded with my husband. Through LittleCr3atures, I design arts experiences for very young audiences up to 36 months old and also explore the roles parents play in our babies’ play experiences.

My recent works for babies include Nadam (2018), Bitesize Lil’ Creatures (2018) produced by LittleCr3atures and Soundmakers by LittleCreatures (2018, 2019) commissioned by the National Gallery Singapore.
